Frosty mornings

December is already here. Time has gone so fast! But the weather this past week has shown that winter now really has arrived. (For Dutch standards, of course.) I just love those frosty mornings!

Those really cold mornings with a white layer of ice on everything, I think those are some of the best moments of the year. Partially, I suspect, because they remind me of Norway.

Although I now know Norway is not the place for me to live permanently, I do miss it sometimes. A lot of times actually, lately. It is, after all, a beautiful country and a place that has been my home for quite some time. I think it is only natural that a part of my heart will always belong there, even when I am completely content with how I’m living right now.

And that is okay. I don’t feel less happy because there is some other place I love too. It just makes me more grateful for the time I have had there, and the life I have now.

December’s wintery breath is already clouding the pond, frosting the pane, obscuring summer’s memory…

November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.
With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.
The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring.

How do you feel about frosty days? Do they remind you of a particular place or event too?

Yes I do like frosty days! I like your pics, especially the ducks in the pond. Reminds me of The Netherlands.

Thank you! I think ducks in a pond like that really are very Dutch, aren’t they?
