Have you noticed what day it is?
It’s the first day of September. Which means that, for most of you, life has probably turned back to normal by now.
By normal, I mean, filled with school, work, household chores, whatever it is that keeps your days busy. All very nice of course, but in this daily routine, it can be hard to find some time to enjoy nature. As I wrote before, nature has an amazing calming effect on us, so it would be a waste to only go out in nature on weekends. It is exactly on those busy days during the week that you can yearn for a bit of nature to make you relax. These tips will help you get your dose of nature.
After a long day of work or school, there is nothing like plopping down on the couch with a bowl of comfort food. Which is ok, really! But try to get moving again after some time. Don’t stay slumped on the couch for the rest of the evening, but motivate yourself to go on a short walk in the evening. It doesn’t have to be long or tiring, just a stroll around the block is enough. That way you will get some fresh air, hopefully see some greens and just have some time to get your mind at rest. I often go for a short walk just before I go to bed, and it always does wonders for my sleep!
You could even try cramming some nature into your lunch break, so you can start work in the afternoon with a fresh mind. Maybe you could arrange to sit outside with your classmates or colleagues, you all put on a warm coat, bring hot drinks and breathe in the fresh air! If there is no suitable place for that, or you simply don’t have the time, at least take two minutes to look at a picture of some green nature. As I explained in my previous post, this alone will help you relax a little bit.
And lastly, try taking some nature with you to work. If you have the luxury of your own office or workspace, set down a vase with some flowers or a bowl with nature findings. If you don’t have your own place, don’t worry! You can still take nature with you! How about a fresh green salad for lunch? It’s green, it’s fresh, it will keep you healthy, I think in desperate times, that can qualify as nature. Or you can give yourself a nice little surprise by hiding dried flowers and herbs between the pages of your books and agenda. They will smell nice, and you will have to smile when you find one of those little treasures, right?
Good luck at work everybody!
