Six Months in Trondheim: a Picture Recap

trondheim recap

As you might know, I’ve been living in Trondheim for the past six months. Setting off to experience life as a Norwegian and attend the university of Trondheim, it has been quite the adventure. It was an amazing experience with both ups and downs. I’ll write more on that later, but for now, here is an overview in pictures.

snowy road

Arriving in Trondheim, I was immediately greeted by lots of snow. Magical, isn’t it?

The first morning walking onto the campus. Could be worse!

a fortress and a forest

I still remember my joy when discovering the small forest in the city.

Soon, I found a favourite café/restaurant in Hagen. Completely vegetarian, all fresh, perfect!

Cold mornings gave beautiful sights. Like this view of the Nidaros Cathedral. (And yes, this was only metres from my home. Lucky me!)

Another favourite food-place: the Bondensmarked. A nice farmers’ market with only local produce.

An evening out at the races. It was a very surprising experience, with snow lying all around and "heavier" horses participating as well.

Of course, with all that cold there is nothing more comforting than traditional Scandinavian rice porridge. (or my healthier version)

A bit later on, we went to the lovely town of Røros where we got to go dog sledding as well! Wow. What an amazing sport!

When my sweet roommate from the Netherlands came to visit, we went for a weekend to Oslo. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of that city, but this view is definitely worth something!

But, even in Oslo you’re not safe for the snow. Though it did make the experience in the open air museum quite magical.

Just look at that view! The Dovrefjell in winter is amazing!

With extra days off during Easter, I went on one of the most beautiful hacks of my life.

If you ever happen to be in Norway on the 17th of May, be prepared. The national day of Norway might be all about their culture, but I thought it really strange, to be honest.

I mean, seriously, things like this happen!

But luckily, there is always the peace and quiet of nature to get back to. And now even spring had arrived!

Almost at the end of the year, we still had a field trip to go on. Three days away from the city to study nature. Like this plankton.

And to just enjoy life in between excursions and studying.

And now, during my last weeks here, it’s back to cold and rain again… Oh well, nothing to do about it.

And it does make for nice views. Oh, how I’m going to miss these horses!

So, very quickly that has been my life over the past six months.Of course this were only a few highlights. There are many more nice days, lovely hikes, cozy evenings, sweet horses, but showing them all might be a bit much. Anyway, living here has been an amazing experience. Though now, I have to say, I’m also quite happy to move back to the Netherlands. Which will be happening very soon, by the way. While finishing up here and moving back, I’m taking a small break from blogging. I’ll be back again in a few weeks, and writing from the Netherlands once again.

Enjoy the start of summer and see you again in July!

Sneeuwfoto’s, brrr.
