The weather was still so soft over the past weeks, it did hardly feel like autumn at all! But now, finally, it’s getting nice and cold.
You might know that I’m a big fan of winter. I just love the crispness in the air, the cold, the clear skies on frosty mornings. And I love autumn, with its beautiful colours, giving a glimpse of the cold days ahead every now and then. Up till now, we only had the colours of autumn to enjoy. The cold was nowhere to be found. But since this weekend, it’s getting better.
On Friday and Saturday, you could already feel the cold in the air. Especially early in the morning you could feel the cold nipping at your nose and fingers. Then Sunday morning came with a lovely wintery scenery. All the leaves had a thin, shimmering coat of ice, twinkling in the sunshine. And there was even a layer of ice on our picnic table. Amazing!
It got even better, when later on it started to hail. With the ground covered in white, you could almost be fooled into thinking it was snow. You know, we even had some snow falling down! But sadly that melted already before it even really touched the ground. Never mind, it was great just looking outside at the snowflakes falling. It reminded me of being in Trondheim, where snow was around a lot of the time. Oh, I hope we will get a nice thick layer of snow here in the Netherlands too this year!
Anyway, I won’t go blabbering along about how great the winter is. Instead, I’ll just wish you all a great week and hope you will enjoy the first glimpses of winter!
