It’s often in the most unexpected places that you find nature in all it’s beauty. I experienced that as I took a walk to celebrate my first official day of summer holiday. For my walk I went to a nature area called “de Blaauwe Kamer”, which translates to “the blue room”. It’s a quite small area close to my home, perfect for a little stroll around.
On such a lovely sunny day, I was prepared to enjoy the buzzing of insects and the smell of flowers. But it turned out some old buildings were the things that took my breath away.
In the middle of the nature area, some ruins of an old brickyard remain. There is a big tower, but also some smaller buildings that were probably used as living spaces. These small buildings have long since been abandoned, now only the walls are remaining. That does give a beautiful sight, the combination of old, weathered bricks and young and lush greens.
In places like this, I always feel a bit strange. Like walking around in an old fairytale, or being transported back to long-forgotten times. Just beautiful!
