Last Friday, I suddenly found myself wandering around Zutphen. Completely unplanned and unexpected. But very nice and relaxing anyway! Especially with the lovely sunshine, illuminating the overload of greens.
So, how did I suddenly end up there, you might be wondering. Well, basically, I was on my way to my parent’s home for the weekend. But when I had to change trains in Arnhem, the train I was supposed to take did not run, and I would have to take the next one. I then had the choice between either waiting around in Arnhem for an hour, or taking the slow train to Zutphen (which is on my route anyway) and spending some time there. Well, not such a difficult choice, is it?
That’s how, suddenly, I was walking through the lovely streets of Zutphen on a Friday afternoon. I might have been a bit delayed in my journey, but it was definitely worth it! I just love that city, somehow it always makes me feel so calm and relaxed. Probably because of all the greens and the alternative shops, I think.
Just look at these pictures, who wouldn’t fall in love with such a place?
What keeps surprising me in the city, are all the lovely “hofjes”. That are small, enclosed courtyard-like places, usually filled with lovely plants. You will often find a bench there too, so you can sit down and enjoy the quiet. The hofjes are located all through the city centre, but you have to look for them. I love how you can walk through a small street, and see a porch open into a tiny alley, which on closer look turns out to be a “hofje”. As they are open to everyone, but are somehow still a kind of private place, it makes it very special places. Go and have a look when you get the chance!
I hope you all had a great weekend too, and wish you an amazing week!
