During the weekend, my family and I went for a walk around estate Eerde. It was such a special, beautiful place! There was a lot of nature, but really intertwined with the lives of people, as it probably has been for hundreds of years.
Walking there, you can totally imagine what life there must have been like a century ago. This large tree, for example, can you see the farmers having lunch in the shadows of its branches after ploughing the field together with their sturdy horses?
The fields were amazing, filled with a huge variety of grasses, herbs and wildflowers. Beautiful!
We also came across this weirdly shaped tree. It has probably been pruned for years in its early life, but when it got set free, it has grown into this enormous tree.
Unfortunately, the buildings of the estate are not open to the public, but we got some glimpses of an old kitchen-garden and orchard beyond the walls. It must be such a great place!
All-in-all, we had a lovely little walk. I would definitely recommend visiting the estate Eerde if you are in the area. I, for one, am almost certain that I will return there for more walks.
